All specimens

63 specimens, arranged oldest first and grouped within each period by what the animal or plant was. Every entry gives its classification, locality and the age of the rock it came from. You can also browse by group.

Silurian

46 specimens

Warm shallow seas covered much of eastern Australia. Reefs of coral and bryozoa, trilobites on the sea floor, and graptolites drifting above them. Most of these specimens come from around Yass, NSW.

Carboniferous

4 specimens

Mountains rose across eastern Australia and began shedding sediment into the basins below. Club mosses grew to tree size on land while brachiopods lived in the cooling seas.

Permian

13 specimens

The Sydney Basin formed and filled. Glossopteris forests dropped their leaves into the swamps that became the Illawarra Coal Measures, and shellfish lived in the cold seas alongside.
