A tabulate coral of loosely spaced, near-parallel tubes joined at intervals by short cross-connections. The resemblance to a set of organ pipes is the source of the common name.

Unlike Favosites, the tubes never touch, so the colony is an open framework rather than a solid mass. The floors inside each tube are funnel-shaped rather than flat.
